I was recently listening to a number of free offerings from Sarah Petty from The Joy of Marketing in her Joystart Your Year initiative for photographers. One of these was by Brian Tracy who talked about two ideas which I think are critical for moving you and your business forward. The first refers to SETTING CLEAR GOALS and the second – which is equally important, in my opinion – is to TAKE ACTION.
So, one of Brian’s suggestions was to sit down and write down something similar to this…
December 31, 2011 (note that this is the end of THIS year)
This year has been the best year of my life because I did the following things…
I then proceeded to write down all the things I had accomplished for 2011 to make it my best year ever, which included both my personal and business goals/achievements. It was a terrific exercise because it allowed me to take a good look at what I really wanted for the year – and to be clear versus vague (as an aside, I have been great at ‘vague’ in year’s past).
Now… goals are terrific, but if you sit on your back end hoping for them to miraculously happen – forget it. This is where mapping out your action plan(s) to move towards those goals is critical. For me personally, I am starting with my #1 personal goal and #1 business goal and taking some sort of action – EVERY DAY – towards making those things happen.
Movement is key.
BOTTOM LINE (if you do nothing else but these two things)…
First… set CLEAR goals (in the order of their importance to you).
Second… take some (any!) ACTION every day towards making Goal #1 a reality, and go from there.
I guarantee if you follow those two rules – great things are coming your way in 2011.
